Cross River Rail is one of Queensland’s most important infrastructures, running 10.2 kilometres between Dutton Park and Bowen Hills. More than half of the rail line is the 5.9-kilometre tunnel traversing under the Brisbane River and Brisbane CBD.
Master Steel, as a registered steelwork supplier of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, participated in the fabrication of the Culvert Steel Angle Connection for the Cross River Rail project with CBGU D&C JV.
The Steel Angle Connection provides a permanent panel restraint for the precast culvert. It is made of AS/NZS 3678 Grade 300 Steel Plates, which are hot-rolled structural steel plates with a nominal minimum yield strength of 300 MPa and good ductility. This type of steel is typically used in general fabrication and as structural members.
It is attached with 2 Elephant Foot ferrules at the bottom of the precast culvert leg and with 2 Hilti HST3-R stainless steel expansion anchors on the base slab. The Elephant Foot ferrules are 316 grade stainless steel that are compliant to AS 3850.1:2015. Meanwhile, the Hilti HST3-R are also 316 grade stainless steel which is ideal for use in cracked concrete under static and seismic conditions. It is also suitable for use in corrosive environments.
Master Steel uses CNC Laser in cutting the steel plates to size, creating jigs, and drilling holes. This sped up the fabrication process and allowed our production crew working 24/7 shifts to deliver a total of 10,098 pieces of the Steel Angle Connection in 30 days. At the same time, this also ensured that the steel plates are fabricated precisely within their approved specifications.
As ISO 9001 certified company, Master Steel can be relied on to deliver a high standard of service for complex steel projects. If you have any steel fabrication needs, call us on 07 5594 7944 or email tenders@mastersteel.com.au today.
