Master Steel supplied the camera poles and anchor cage for the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The camera pole stands at 4 metres and uses 200x200mm square hollow section steel. The hot-rolled steel bars and sections used for the project are compliant to the requirements of AS 3679. At the top of the pole is the 120mm OD spigot connection. The camera pole also has a 210x60mm access door with overlapping door cover plate. The structure stands on 350x350mm base plate and connected to the anchor cage with M24 U bolts, levelling nut, and washer. All in all, the camera pole can carry an axial load of 4.5kN and allowable top weight of 200kg.
Meanwhile, the 2-metre anchor cage is made with four 28-diameter Grade D500N deformed bars, which are typically used in columns, prefabricated beams, precast products, and cages. They are bar threaded at the top to M24 and set with galvanised levelling and fixing nuts, hex, and washers.
The D500N deformed bars are held together by four 12-diameter Grade R250N bars welded together in pairs and set at every 800mm of the length of the anchor cage. Around the deformed bars is a 6 diameter Grade R250N, wound in a circular helix and welded at all deformed bars for the first turn and on every alternate turn.
The anchor cage has a stainless steel or aluminium identification label at the top to indicate the manufacturer’s name, the mass of the anchor cage, and the month and year of manufacture.
All the welding is done to AS/NZS 1554.3, which defines the requirements for the welding of reinforcing steel used in concrete structures.
